Wellington Bench

The drive behind the Wellington Bench was the question of how a heavy object can appear weightless, like it is gently hovering above the ground. The answer was light. We created a polished concrete bench, almost resembling a block of stone. The base in turn was cast from rubber and backlit from inside, giving the illusion of insubstantiality. The concrete mass floats above, appearing light and weightless above a blanket of light.

The Wellington Bench was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 2018
